The Islamic world aflame with revolt and upheaval…Earthquakes increasing in frequency and intensity…Superstorms ravaging the planet…Violent protests raging throughout the world… Sound familiar?

It’s not a subject that the secular media is likely to explore, but millions of people the world over should be asking themselves whether the turmoil and disasters plaguing the globe are the signs of the times predicted by Jesus and the prophets of the Bible that would coincide with the end of the age.

Matthew 24:
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

As we look at the instability in our world, the turmoil and the threat of terrorism, we can’t help but ask, “Are we living in the last days”? There have always been catastrophes in the world, but never before have there been so many, and so frequently! Earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, famine, disease and war…Are we simply experiencing the natural order of things as some contend, or are the signs we see all around us the warnings of the end times?

One only has to read the latest headlines to know that something evil is brewing in the world:

I believe that it is our responsibility as Bible believing men and women to pray as the prophet Daniel did that was recorded in the Book of Daniel chapter 9:1-19:

“I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:
“Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land. Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame—the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you. We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you. The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him; we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets. All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you. Therefore the curses and sworn judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you. You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing on us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. The Lord did not hesitate to bring the disaster on us, for the Lord our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him….Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”

I pray that God will once again revive His Church and that we will all endure until the end and be found ready to meet our king.

  1. I have been getting an inkling the last couple of days that radical change is about on us. To this end I have elevated the Spiritual antenna to more closely hone in to the prompts of the Lord.

  2. What if the “world” was really you on the inside, and the “last days” were not days at all but the final stages of growing to be more like God?

The reflections of truth go well beyond the understanding of mortal men too afraid to see God when gazing into a mirror.

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

    • I do not disagree with the Bible verses you shared, but on the eve of his crucifixion, Jesus prayed to his Father in John 17:14–19, “I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.” Notice Jesus’ references to his disciples being “not of the world.” Verse 14: “The world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” And there it is again in verse 16: “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” It’s clear that Jesus doesn’t want his followers to be “of the world.” Jesus also includes his followers today in his prayer in verses 20-21.

The Bible is very specific about the Last Days in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 2 Peter 3:3-4, Luke 21, as well as the books of Joel, Daniel and Revelation. To say that the world is inside of us is to contradict what our Messiah said. And those who are of the world at the Last Day will not grow closer to God but only have the expectation of destruction! Some will even refuse to repent and even curse God because of His righteous judgment!

“The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness. Men gnawed their tongues in agony and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.” – Revelation 16:10-11

Believers need to get serious about serving God and warning others of the danger they are in without Him. I fear America is heading down the same destructive path as the Roman Empire before it fell. And just as the people in Noah’s day, the Romans paid no attention to the dangers until it was too late!
